A 2-year-old girl drowned at her family's Phoenix home Saturday evening, only weeks after Maricopa County celebrated its first summer swimming season in at least two decades without any child drownings.
Police and firefighters responded to a call at 8:15 p.m. at the house in the 14800 block of North 62nd Way.
The girl apparently crawled out of the house through a dog door, Sgt. Joel Tranter said. The parents were not home. The child was being supervised by a 14-year-old.
She was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The girl is the seventh child to drown in Maricopa County this year. The last incident was May 14.
