Police have identified a man found floating in Tempe Town Lake, but officials are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the possible drowning.

Police are still searching for any relatives of Herbert Huetter, 64, who was spotted in the water by a female jogger midmorning on May 10.

Investigators hope to work with the Austrian government to locate distant relatives after friends told police he may have family there, said Sgt. Dan Masters, a Tempe police spokesman.

When found, Huetter was wearing only jeans and had no identification on him, police said.

Police did find receipts indicating he had been living at a motel on Apache Boulevard.

An autopsy revealed no signs of anything unusual, police said, but detectives are waiting for toxicology reports to determine if any drugs, alcohol or medical issues were possible factors.

It was the second apparent drowning in the lake in recent months.

On Feb. 14, 23-year-old John Rose-Palermo, a former Arizona State University student, jumped off the Rural Road bridge and drowned.

Firefighters have recovered five bodies from the lake since it opened in 1999.

"We want to emphasize that Town Lake is not for swimming," said Officer Brandon Banks, a Tempe police spokesman.
