NORTH PHOENIX - Two toddlers were in critical condition after nearly drowning in a Phoenix swimming pool Monday night.
A boy and girl climbed on furniture and through a window to get to the pool at a home near 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road, said Chief Mike Sandulak, Phoenix fire spokesman.
The mother of one child went through the open window and took both toddlers out of the pool, Sandulak said. The pool water was reportedly murky and green.
The boy was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital in critical condition, although he was breathing and awake, Sandulak said. He was discharged Tuesday, according to Sandulak.
The girl was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center also in critical condition, but at first was not breathing, Sandulak said. She was listed in extremely critical condition Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said that the girl was put on a ventilator and that it could take up to two days to determine whether she will recover.
