A 9-month-old Gilbert girl is in critical condition after nearly drowning in a bathtub Thursday morning, said Gilbert Police Sgt. Andrew Duncan.
The baby's mother, Amber Lynn Ferguson, 23, was home when her daughter, Katelynn Garcia, almost drowned at about 11:35 a.m. Ferguson, who called 911 from a neighbor's home across the street, reported the baby was submerged in a bathtub.
The baby, who is currently on a ventilator, was taken from her home on the 1700 block of East Tulsa Street to Mercy Gilbert Medical Center and later flown to Banner Desert Medical Center, Duncan said.
The father, Daniel Garcia, 28, was not home during the incident. Katelynn has a 3-year-old sister who lives in the same home.
The case is under investigation.
