BENSON - The body of a second man swept away when rising flood waters swamped a hay truck in a wash was recovered Wednesday by searchers with the Cascabel Fire Department, officials said.

The two men were returning to St. David after buying hay for their cattle and were north of Benson Monday evening when they tried to cross the wash and were stranded, according to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office. Another motorist tried to throw a rope to one of the men as he was perched atop hay on the flatbed truck, but he was washed away.

The body of Zunon Martinez Guzman, 61, of St. David was found early Tuesday about 1/2 mile downstream, sheriff's officials said.

The body of the second victim, Manuel Pena, 45, also of St. David, was recovered at mid-morning Wednesday.

Public safety officials consistently warn against crossing flooded washes during Arizona's rainy season because of the risks of being stranded or washed away and drowned.
