To promote drowning prevention and awareness...

Glendale Community College (GCC) and the municipal fire departments are sponsoring their fourth annual Water Safety Day. In conjunction with April Pools Month, GCC's Water Safety Day will be held Thursday, April 10, 2003, at the Dobson campus at 6000 W. Olive in Glendale Arizona. On-going activities from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will include:

This Years Water Day Activities include:

  • Opening Ceremony: Press Conference and Kick-Off for Drowning Prevention April Pool's Day
  • Safety Presentations for children, instructed by local fire departments
  • Tours of fire engines, emergency helicopters, ambulancesw, and Sheriff's Department diving boat
  • Lake and River Safety
  • First aid and water safety classes for parents, high school and college students
  • Pool care/safety classes
  • Water rescue and swimming demonstrations
  • Home preventative/safety instruction
  • Assemble "Build a Reminder" (an object relating to a water-safe practice

    Educational Material include:

    • Visual displays depicting places people can drown
    • Visual displays of safety items tp promote awareness
    • An abundance of literature / statistical graphs teaching water safety rules
    • Information on swimming lessons and CPR training
    • One-on-One discussions with safety professionals
    • Tribute to drowning victims in Maricopa County
