This trial includes the full functionality of HP Smart Desktop Management Service with 200 MB storage capacity for PC backup. It is available for customers free of charge with no commitment to buy. Each customer is allowed to install the free trial one time only. Customers will receive notifications with instructions on how to purchase HP Smart Desktop Management Service before the 30 day trial expires.

Before getting started with the installation of your 30-day Free Trial, please complete the following steps: |

Step 1: Ensure your system meets the following minimum requirements:
- PC running Windows 2000 or Windows XP
- T1/DSL high speed Internet access
- At least 256 Mbytes of memory and 200 Mbytes of free hard disk space
- Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or above
- Administrative privileges on the end user's PC
- ActiveX must be enabled in Internet Explorer. To enable a dialog box, select Tools / Internet Options / Security tab / Custom level button for Internet access.
- We recommended you close all software applications on the end user's computer prior to starting the installation process for Smart Desktop.
Step 2: Antivirus, Spy Ware and Firewall Software must be removed from your PC to ensure successful installation of Symantec's antivirus tool within HP Smart Desktop. Failure to remove existing antivirus, spy ware and firewall software will prevent a successful installation of HP Smart Desktop.
- To remove these types of existing software, simply select Start / Control Panel / Add & Remove Program
- Select the existing software and click Change/Remove button
Step 3: If a virus is suspected on the PC, the virus must be removed prior to installing HP Smart Desktop. Failure to remove any viruses will prevent a successful installation of HP Smart Desktop.
- Visit Symantec at http://security.symantec.com for a free tool to check the PC for any potential viruses
- If no viruses are detected, proceed with installation.
- If a virus is detected, proceed with Symantec directions (fee based) for virus removal.
Step 4: You are now ready to begin the HP Smart Desktop Management Service 30-Day Free Trial installation:
To proceed with the installation of HP Smart Desktop 30-Day Free Trial, visit the free trial installation Web site and follow the download instructions.
HP Smart Desktop will install the following software components:
- Symantec anti-virus and anti-Spy Ware application
- Symantec personal firewall application
- Accellion backup and restore application
- HP Smart Desktop agent, which performs regular check for vulnerabilities
- HP Software Rollback
- HP Deep Scan
- Microsoft Patch Management
Using the HP Smart Desktop Management Service 30-Day Free Trial installation
- HP Smart Desktop free trial creates an icon on your desktop for easy and quick access to the HP Smart Desktop portal in the future.
- All the components of HP Smart Desktop have default configurations EXCEPT for HP Software Rollback.
- We highly advise you to perform a backup the first time you enter the HP Smart Desktop portal.
